![]() has anyone checked their claimed sources (Leonardo Finmeccanica archives of La Spezia, Italian Army White Book (1992)) so it would be odd for APFSDS not to fit.Īlso is it not possible the autoloader changed between the inception of the OTOmatic project (1979) and its cancelation (1991), as tanks encyliopedia seems adiment it has 2 12 round drums. and the 76mm Valcano rounds (HEFSDS with a tungsten cap for penatration, so APHEFSDS) can also fit. The way the draco (which only has a single autoloading system) claims to be able to fire all standard 76mm rounds. combined with this, the OTOmatic would become a medium tank or a light tank (OTOMATIC stands for OTO Main Automatic Tank for interception and combat, ie it was considered a main tank and thus could be considered a medium tank this would also increase its spawn cost), Therefore i would argue the OTOmatic should have a min of 3 APFSDS and 26 HE (in the autoloading mechanisms) and then has 63 rounds that can be either. this sounds like a ready rack of 26 rounds for both autoading mechanisms and then the other 2 (26 and 9) are reserve. Also the Rooikat's 76mm APFSDS-T doesn't need special ammo racks, so while the autoloader feeding system might be specific (or might not be) based on the size (or shape? perhaps the dart can't be griped like the HE and SAPOM can) of the shells, the hull ammo rack should be capable of holding any kind of round.Īlso doesn't differentitiate the ammo outside the autoloaders claiming 3 AP 1st drum, 26 AA 2nd mechanism, and 26 'more accessible, stowed in the turret', and 'a reserve of 26 rounds stored in the hull and nine rounds in the turret'. Thats something you have to provide sources for surely? they look the same size in the drawing to me, and i haven't seen anything which says they are a difference size except this thread. It loads from a drum on the left side of the breach, if the otomatic has the same loading mechanism I don't see why the APFSDS projectiles would be limited.Īnd let's say that the size difference between APFSDS projectiles and the rest are very different and they can't fit in one of the mechanisms that load the drum, you can still keep them in the reserve storage. ![]() How much does the otomatic gun differ from it's naval derivative? I assume the internal mechanisms are the same. ![]() Iirc, APFSDS and HE-VT have different total lengths so they can't swap places.īesides, OTOMATIC is an anti air first and foremost, and its AT rounds should only be used for self defence. It uses a dual ammo feed mechanism, one for APFSDS (left hand side of the turret when looking at it from the front) and one for HE-VT (hull and right hand side) (then there's the SAPOM which it never fired but it's a round used on the naval 76 which is the same gun and Gaijin saw fit giving it a stock round other than HE). We can also take into account it's rather low penetration values and the armor values of top tier MBT's, sometimes killing a tank from the front is almost impossible and thus wastes many APFSDS projectiles. My proposition of not limiting the amount of APFSDS projectiles would not make it OP in any capacity and would give it more chances of survival against enemy MBT's and other tanks. It is large and bulky and has a hullbreak mechanic, the days of it being OP (at 9.0 BR) are long over, but the hard cap for APFSDS projectiles is still there. If the reason behind this is balance - the otomatic has been given BR raises ever since it's inception, now it is squarely in the top tier range. That means we already have an example that gaijin disregards doctrine. If the reason behind this is doctrine, let me remind you that the T80U and some other soviet vehicles (and other vehicles in general) had a doctrine of only taking a limited number of ATGM's in their vehicle, but in game that was changed and it is possible to take any number of ATGMs. I assume gaijin either used the number 12 as a balance method, or they found a statement somewhere that the doctrine of the otomatic crews was to take 12 APFSDS projectiles for self defense. It's not a problem of whether the otomatic can take that many APFSDS projectiles, because it can. The otomatic has no dedicated ammo rack specifically for the APFSDS projectiles, as every ammo rack can either hold more than 12 or less than 12 projectiles.
